Dan Smyth: Kaiser Chiefs – G Live, Guildford

New venues don’t come around all that often, so when I heard that in nearby Guildford one had recently opened I jumped at the chance to shoot a concert there. The G Live is nice, very clean (almost clinically so) and the stage and lighting rigs didn’t seem all that bad. The real bonus though is that it’s only a 25 minute drive from my house meaning I can edit from the comfort of my own desk!

Kaiser Chiefs were the band in question. They were already a few dates into their current tour and I’d only spotted the show the day before. Fortunately I was able to secure a pass at the last minute and was all set to shoot a band I’d been a huge fan of as a teenager.

Over the last few years I’ve seen quite a few shots of the band playing but had never shot them myself. The lighting on the night was almost solidly dark blue with the occasional burst of red. Fortunately Ricky is a great frontman and can turn even the most dull of lighting set ups into an exciting show. Below are some shots from the gig, head over to my website for the full set – www.dansmythphotography.com
