First post of 2012 (and it’s a big one!)
First of all, Happy New Year everyone!
Slightlyyy late on this entry I suppose, however I hope you’ve all had a great start to 2012 so far and life’s treating you very well! This is going to be a monster post of sorts I’m afraid, so if you hate lots of words and pictures all at once this probably won’t make your day and you should click away now…. Or just skip straight to the pictures.
Last time I posted on here I had shared three out of my Top 5 shows so far, and today I’m going to reveal the final two along with some new shots of Evanescence, Twin Atlantic, In Flames, Trivium and The Pretty Reckless.
My #No.2: Rockness Festival, Inverness, Scotland. June 12th-14th 2009
This was my first major festival, the second festival I ever shot (way back when I was still in school), and it was a blast! My good friend Eilidh accompanied me all the way up North to somewhere roughly twenty miles off of Inverness to review the festival for a then big music website, and we were excited. Really excited.
The first night went past in a blur of seas of faces and getting lost together, mostly, but the following two were jam-packed with great music, over-priced food, copious amounts of energy drinks and, well…. a lot of rain, which sucked. Regardless, it’s still one of the best weekends I’ve ever had, and being entrusted to take photos and report back on how great it was on top of that – especially given my age at the time – was something I’ll always appreciate and be very thankful for.
And to wrap things up, my #Number One show so far to shoot is: My Chemical Romance at Edinburgh Corn Exchange, October 25th 2010
Okay I’ll admit, this one was in very close competition with shooting My Chemical Romance D-Code Festival in Madrid last Summer – purely because getting to take shots of your favourite band in 37 degree heat on your birthday isn’t something likely to ever happen very often back home in the UK, let alone ever again, but it just bet out that show for a few reasons. Firstly, (at most importantly, in my case), this was the one I had been waiting for. As childish and simplistic as it sounds, watching this band live and the way in which they perform was one of the primary pushes it took for me to get the guts to pick up a camera and start taking photos of bands at all, and maybe even by some miracle be getting the chance to take photos of MCR in such a fashion one day had always been a fairytale dream of mine up until this point, so achieving such a major goal was huge to me.
And so, three years down the line I actually got to take photos of my favourite band in a (relatively) hiccup-free manner. Nobody died, my camera didn’t malfunction, and I’m really happy with the results. If only every day went like this one.
I’ve also been a little quiet with regards to more recent shows these days, and there’s been a fair few awesome ones to speak of! For a start, Evanescence returned and played their first Scottish show in over 8 years (bringing The Pretty Reckless with them, who seemed to have upped their game also since last time), and it was definitely worth the wait. Inkeeping with the heavy rock/metal theme, I also got the chance to see Trivium and Swedish legends In Flames recently, who were fantastic! That and seeing my hometown friends Twin Atlantic headlining a sold out Glasgow Academy show which was very special indeed. As always there’s way more shots up at www.flickr.com/photos/electro-
Hope you’re all good and I promise not to leave it this long without a post again,
Chelsea xo
